The Week That Should Have Been Quiet

It was the Tuesday before Thanksgiving 2023. I walked into the QC lab with a coffee I didn't end up drinking. Our lead inspector pointed at the dial indicators on the fixture bench. "These are reading about three tenths off from this morning," he said. "I don't trust them."

Honestly, I was sort of proud of the thermal camera work. In hindsight, it was a band-aid. It didn't fix the underlying process failure.

  • Do I have the manual open before troubleshooting? Not after.
  • If I'm not trained to repair it, stop and tag it.
